This page will discuss the importance of Accessibility Testing and tools I personally used and would recommend.
When it comes to accessibility testing, there are many tools to use for it. In order to make sure your website looks good, you should always make sure that everything you create passes Web Accessibility Testing, such as making sure you have good color contrast, having clickable links that actually work, including "alt" text with any images uploaded, and many other things like that.
Take the examples of Fake Crash, Crash, and Coco below. They all have alternative text so if they don't load or the user is using a screen reader like NVDA or Windows Narrator, they will be able to have these two described by their alternative text. Crash's alt text is "Crash Bandicoot Pointing", and Fake Crash (to the left), has "Fake Crash Dancing" as his alt text. As for Coco, Crash's little sister to the far right, her alt text is "Coco Bandicoot Fiddling with her Laptop", to accurately describe her little fiddling there.
There are a few tools that I have used for accessibility testing, one of which being The WAVE Evaluation Tool, which I use for almost every single page that has been developed for my CMWEB150 class, including these pages. I personally recommend WAVE if you are looking to verify your web pages, as it really works well for defining aspects of web accessibility.
Another application I had used for web accessibility testing was the Functional Accessibility Evaluator, or FAE. I had used it during my research on the accessibility of Soundcloud.com, and it did a good job at verifying the errors, passing elements, warnings, and other such aspects. This is another tool that I highly reccomend.
The last tool that I reccomend personally is A11Y, which is only meant to help figure out the color contrast on a page. It allows you to understand the color scheme and determine if it acts as an accessible one at that. Personally, this tool is a win if you are looking for a way to understand if color contrast on a website is good.
