Here is the transcript from the essay portion of this lab:
1. Link to Curlie.org While searching with Curlie's Directory, I found that it did take quite an impressive and comprehensive data base including tons of things I thought it would include. It gave me a couple of good sources to use, but I feel just doing a regular search is better, as it yields more results. When visiting some of the places of my topics, I had found that there were only one or two actual websites that it linked me to, and even then, some of those sites are outdated in their overall content, one of which I visited was dated to about 20 years earlier. Namely, I had discovered that they had a link about video game topics, and as you may know by this point, I am a huge supporter of the Crash Bandicoot franchise, so I decided to take a look at some of the articles that Curlie's Directory had posted, and ended up finding articles on some of my favorite Crash games, but one article found on the gaming website GameSpot, was concerning the 2000 game, Crash Bash. This was Crash's last release on the original Sony PlayStation, and the content on the website has still be left there from around the date of Nov. 2000, meaning that there hasn't been even any references to the game being twenty years old, leaving the page to basically be outdated by two decades. Needless to say, I think searching manually on somewhere like Google or Yahoo is better, as not only do they yield more results, but they also yield more current results, although, I still really liked using Curlie.org to find information, and found it to be a very neatly organized comprehensive database of information regarding multiple current and old topics.
2. https://ahrefs.com/blog/alternative-search-engines/ The name of this web page is 7 Alternative Search Engines to Google (Tried & Tested). This web page includes information regarding different web browser that are good alternatives to Google and how to use them. This site is useful and important because not only does it present good alternatives to Google, but it also discusses the privacy of each one and how they are used. This article also compares each of the search engines to each other and even sheds some light on more obscure web search engines that few know about like Qwant, aside from some more well know search engines such as Duck Duck Go, Yahoo, and Bing. This article is good because it sheds some light on more obscure web browsers, but also is good for the sake of making sure you can use these browsers like VPN-styled programs to do all of your searches in a more private environment, compared to something like Google or Yahoo/Bing which are opened up to basically be the ultimate public search engines out in the world today.
3. https://restoreprivacy.com/private-search-engine// The title is Private Search Engines. This website is essentially the same as before. It is useful because it contains important information regarding the differences between different web browsers. Some of them are quite interesting, as they are different listings compared to the ones from the last search article. But once again, this website gives information on different web browsers, some more unique and unheard of compared to the last source, but primarily it focuses on the best private web pages and browsers to use, which has become a seriously important thing in today's age, as privacy has been worn thin by many mediums. This source is important because it contains important information regarding all of the ways each of the browsers function, and thus should be regarded as a viable source. This is a good article because it talks about ways to protect your privacy, and that is something that should be a top priority in today's day and age.
4. https://www.lifewire.com/best-search-engines-2483352 The title is The Best Search Engines of 2021. This source more focuses on the idea of reviewing search engines compared to each other, of course including some different but more well known ones like Yahoo and Google. This article is useful because it details the functions of each browser and describes how each of them stacks up compared to each other. Lifewire is an incredibly trusty source, as I have used it multiple times in the past for other projects, and as such, the information on the page is a very good way of comparing the differences between all of the different major web browsers and finding out the fundamentals of each one, allowing for a more diverse choice when you decide which web browser you will want to use. It's a good article, because it talks about what are the best recommended browsers of 2021, and what you would possibly be better off using.
